Today, we’ll be talking about 5 ways to protect the earth. We have 8 planets in the solar system with Earth being the most habitable and life supporting planet. Tho, scientists have found evidence of life on Mars (one of the 8 planets), Mars is nowhere as habitable as Earth. Earth is by far the most habitable planet in the universe. So what happens if Earth is totally destroyed?! It’s crazy how the earth is deteriorating.
We live in the earth yet we treat it like it is not our habitat. We take actions that make the earth continue to degrade everyday. The earth is our habitat as well as our survival. Without the earth, life would be nearly impossible if not completely impossible. How do we protect the earth and prevent it from degrading? What should we do to keep the earth in good shape? Here are 5 ways to protect the earth.

Be more sustainable
I love how sustainability is being encouraged nowadays. While you don’t have to start being 100% sustainable at once, you can take little defined steps to being more sustainable. For me, sustainability is a process and not something that happens in a jiffy. Making a conscious effort to be sustainable will reduce the amount of toxic or harmful substances released into the environment, making it safe.
Also, when we centre our attention on sustainability, we get to live in clean, more healthy living conditions. So do you best to be more sustainable and make sure the products you buy and things you use are eco-friendly and have little to no harmful effect on the environment. If you want to know about sustainability, these 5 sustainability podcasts can help you.

Switch to renewable energy sources
Conventional generators are good right? I know they are but they are not eco-friendly. They have a massive harmful effect on the environment as well as humans. They release a poisonous gas called carbon monoxide. When carbon monoxide is released into the atmosphere, it affects the amount of green house gases which can lead to global warming. Instead of using generators that pollute and release harmful gases into the environment, switch to a renewable, clean and eco-friendly energy source like solar panels, and wind turbines. Using renewable energy sources will reduce the amount of carbon emissions you produce thereby making the earth 🌍 more healthy, cleaner and safer.

Do not cut down trees
It might not seem like it but trees do a lot in keeping the earth habitable, clean and safe. And it annoys me to see them being cut down. Trees take in carbon dioxide and give off oxygen that we need to breathe. Excess carbon dioxide in the environment can lead to global warming. And trees help to combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide. They also filter, clean and purify the air and they absorb pollutant gases like Nitrogen. They also absorb storm water, prevent flooding , and help combat climate change. Trees are amazing right? Stop cutting down trees. Encourage afforestation (planting of trees) and discourage deforestation (cutting down of trees). It’s amazing what effect planting a tree can have on the environment and the earth in general.
Do not throw refuse in the ocean
Water covers more than two-third of the Earth’s surface. The ocean covers about 71% of the earth’s surface and it holds 97% of our planet’s water. It also absorbs carbon dioxide, regulates rainfall and helps keep the carbon cycle balanced. It has so many benefits to our planet but it is so neglected. I have seen the ocean overflowing with dirt and garbage and I marvel at the amount of ignorance exhibited by those who throw garbage in the ocean. Throwing garbage in the ocean not only harms the animals in there but negatively impacts the earth as well. So take care of the ocean in whatever way you can and most importantly, do not throw refuse in it.

Reduce waste, recycle and cut down your plastic use
The importance of recycling to the environment cannot be emphasized. Instead of just throwing away, convert waste into reusable materials. Recycling helps reduce waste thereby making the earth cleaner, safer and healthier. Plastic never goes away and even today, large amounts of plastic waste can be found on land, and on ocean surfaces. Reduce your use of plastic. You can cut down on your plastic waste by using reusable bags when you shop, and by making sure to avoid products made from or packaged in plastic.
Other ways to protect the earth
- Reduce food waste
- Reduce vehicle pollution. Use fueless vehicles or use bikes instead.
- Use eco friendly gift wrappers
- Volunteer for community clean ups
- Spread the word. Now that you know how to protect the earth, teach others to do the same.
