Christmas is a crazy time of the year! While the holiday season is amazing, and a wonderful time to spend time with family, celebrate, and all that, Christmas can also be a really busy and overwhelming period.
During Christmas, there’s always so much hustle and bustle so much that we may end up drained and exhausted. With all the stress that comes with the holidays, it is very important to not neglect self care.
And so, today, I’ll be sharing some self care tips to practice this Christmas! Below are some self care tips to practice this Christmas.
Ever heard the statement a cluttered environment leads to a cluttered mind? Guess what? That statement is completely true and has no lie attached to it. Decluttering is a huge form of self care as decluttering helps clear your mind and it also helps you think more clearly.
During Christmas, it can be so easy to end up with clutters, everything lying around everywhere, and a pile of wanted and unwanted materials. Clutter can mess up your mental health and it can also lead to stress and even anxiety so it’s important to declutter. Here’s a guide to decluttering at Christmas.
2. practice gratitude
One of the most important tip on my list of self care tips for Christmas is to practice gratitude.
Practicing gratitude never goes out of style. There is never a lack of things to be grateful for, we just have to look hard enough to find them.
This Christmas, sit down, take your time to reflect on everything and you’ll realise just how much there is to be grateful for both big and small. Develop the attitude of gratitude today!
3. ditch the technology
I think a lot of us are guilty of spending so much time on our phones so much that sometimes we get too focused on social media and the happenings around it that we forget how important it is to focus on the moment and live in the present.
Also, some of the anxiety we get during the holidays can be due to social media. Seeing other people’s “perfect” Christmas may pressure you into wanting to have a perfect Christmas as well.
And that pressure to have a perfect Christmas may end up making you stressed and exhausted.
During this holiday season, reduce your use of social media. Spend your time doing something more worthwhile than just scrolling aimlessly on social media.
4. create time for you
Christmas can get so busy to the point where you hardly have time for you. But, in order for you to thrive the most and be your best self, you need to set aside “you time“. No amount of you time is too small.
Spending time with yourself is not selfish and you time is extremely important as it can help you relax, practice gratitude and it can even improve your mood.
This Christmas, try to make time for you. You matter! Also, you don’t have to do anything extra while spending time with yourself. You can:
- Read a book.
- Watch a movie all by yourself.
- Reminisce the good times and think about the positives.

5. treat yourself
Self care isn’t only about the mental and emotional stuff. It’s about the physical things too. If you love pizzas, go out and get yourself an extra large pizza. Spoil yourself with the things you love.
Treating yourself doesn’t have to be anything extra. It can be as simple as getting yourself that dress you’ve always wanted. Treating yourself is a way of practicing self care!
6. get as much rest as possible
Christmas is always a busy period and you might be in for a breakdown if you don’t find time to rest and unwind.
As much as you may want to get involved in Christmas and everthing that comes with it, it is very important to rest.
7. take care of your body
During Christmas, a lot of us tend to neglect our body. Make this Christmas a little different, take a walk, eat well, eat healthy, sleep, excercise, stay hydrated and take care of your body as much as you can.
8. forgive yourself
A lot of people find it difficult to forgive themselves. The reason why we forgive other people so easily but find it difficult to forgive our own selves is something I would never understand.
A lot of us haven’t forgiven ourselves for mistakes we made in the past. This Christmas, forgive yourself completely. Let go.
Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. You deserve forgiveness too.
